The Cremation Process
Centre City Cremation will assist with each stage of the cremation process, ensuring that each step is completed in accordance with state laws governing the funerary process. Although the cremation procedure can take several days to complete, we will make every effort to complete it as promptly as possible. These steps include:
Authorizing the Cremation
Centre City Cremation will assist you with the authorization process so that all legal requirements are met for the cremation. Please contact our office in San Diego for more information on this portion of the cremation process.
Notifying Social Security
When a death occurs, Social Security must be notified. We will send the initial notification of death to the local SSA office. We also encourage the family to call Social Security at their earliest convenience to determine if any benefits are due to or owed by surviving family members.
Social Security and Veterans’ Benefits for Survivors
Although Social Security does not pay for final arrangements, surviving family members may be eligible for Social Security benefits. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) may provide partial reimbursement for final expenses if the deceased veteran was receiving VA benefits during life. Our team can connect you with resources to learn more about eligibility for and disbursement of benefits.
Placing the Obituary Notice
Our staff will assist you with the placement of any desired obituary notices in local newspapers. Please contact Centre City Cremation in downtown San Diego for more information on this and other cremation services.
Completing the Death Certificate
We will assist you in obtaining a Death Certificate prior to cremation as required by state law. The Certificate originates at our office, and then goes to the local Vital Statistics office, where it is filed. Upon your request, the Vital Statistics office will issue certified copies of the death certificate for a small fee.
Memorializing Your Loved One
Centre Center Cremation is licensed by the State of California as a Direct Disposal Establishment and does not provide Memorial Services. However, we provide a range of cremation urns should you choose to have a graveside service. We also assist with helping families meet state and federal laws governing where ashes are scattered.
